George Zimmerman, the Florida neighborhood watch captain who shot and killed unarmed teen Trayvon Martin, sued NBC on Thursday claiming they edited his 911 call to make him sound like he was a racist.
In the portion of the call aired by NBC, Martin was heard saying, "This guy looks like he's up to no good. He looks black."
The network edited the preceding part of the recording that had the dispatcher asking if the person who raised Zimmerman's suspicion was "black, white or Hispanic."
The suit says, "NBC saw the death of Trayvon Martin not as a tragedy but as an opportunity to increase ratings, and so set about to create a myth that George Zimmerman was a racist and predatory villain."
An NBC spokeswoman countered, "There was no intent to portray Mr. Zimmerman unfairly. We intend to vigorously defend our position in court."
