With Newtown, Connecticut and the nation still in shock over the senseless killing of 20 first graders and six women Friday at an elementary school there, the first victims were laid to rest on Monday.
Hundreds turned out to separate services to mourn the loss of two six-year-old boys, Jack Pinto and Noah Pozner.
Jack, who loved football, was buried in a New York Giants jersey, his favorite team. His idol, Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz, reportedly spoke to the Pinto family over the weekend and wore Jack's name on his shoes during Sunday's game.
Noah, the youngest child to be killed, loved tacos, animals and video games. His twin sister, Arielle, was in another classroom and survived the shooting spree.
In a statement, the Pozner family said they appreciated the support "from people from all walks of life, from far and near." They added, "Noah, his classmates and the heroic teachers who gave their lives trying to protect them are with God in heaven. Now it's our responsibility to bring heaven down to earth -- act by act, good deed by good deed, until we reach the day when no family will need to endure grief and sorrow, the day we reach a world filled with goodness and light."
