Victoria Soto -- the first grade teacher who shielded her students from being shot during the massacre in Connecticut on Friday -- was laid to rest on Wednesday.
More than 400 people turned out to honor the 27-year-old, who was remembered as a dedicated teacher who had a well-known "goofball" side. Reverend Meg Boxwell Williams of the Lordship Community Church called Soto a “quick-thinking, beautiful, selfless person... Her last act was selfless, Christlike in laying down her life for her children."
Paul Simon, a family friend, performed the Simon and Garfunkel song "The Sound of Silence" at the funeral.
Funerals were held for three of the children, and wakes were held for three more, as well as school principal Dawn Hochsprung.
