The White House plan for gun control might go beyond merely re-instating a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

The Washington Post is reporting that the group, led by Vice President Joe Biden, is looking at a broader approach that would include universal background checks for gun buyers and tracking the sales and movement of weapons with a nationwide database.

The plan will also include tougher mental health checks and will raise penalties for those giving weapons to minors or carrying them near schools.
