This one's sure to rile up strong feelings both for and against -- the Pentagon is opening up direct combat jobs to women for the first time.

However, the process will be gradual -- unlike the end of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, which came in one fell swoop. Each service branch will assess its positions and figure out how best to integrate women. And some jobs may not be open to women at all, if they lack the physical capability required.

Outgoing defense secretary Leon Panetta is setting a goal of 2016 for full integration. There's no word yet on how his successor, Chuck Hagel, feels about the move.
