The lawyer of the defendant who is accused of hoaxing Notre Dame star Manti Te’o into an online relationship made quite the shocking revelation to the New York Daily News.

The lawyer claims that his client, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, disguised his voice and created a fake identity to fit the character of a girl that Manti Te’o would develop a relationship with. So basically Te’o's "girlfriend" was Ronaiah Tuiasosopo pretending to be a woman.

Tuiaspopo’s lawyer told the Daily News that this wasn’t a prank to have fun with, but rather “it was a person with a troubled existence trying to reach out and communicate and have a relationship.”
