The five-year-old boy who was taken for an Alabama school bus six days ago is safe and has been taken to a hospital and his kidnapper has been killed, according to law enforcement officials.

FBI agents stormed the bunker where Jimmy Lee Dykes was holding the boy, but have not released details of the mission that freed the boy. Byron Martin, who owns a home in Midland, Alabama near the bunker where the boy was held, said, "I heard a big boom and then…I believe I heard rifle shots."

A pair of ambulances were spotted leaving the scene shortly before 4 p.m. local time.

It was last Tuesday when Dykes allegedly boarded a Dale County school bus and told the driver he was taking two children. When the driver, Charles Albert Poland Jr., tried to stop him, Poland was shot and killed. Although at least 21 children escaped from the bus's emergency back exit, police say Dykes took the five-year-old boy and then he holed up with the child inside a bunker he had built.
