When you talk with friends or for us, often we are blessed that listeners of our radio station trust us enough to share their hearts on this too, how being single is causing them to be depressed. And dare I mention the “F-word” the reaction can stir a very passionate reaction! Not THAT “F” by the way! That is a whole other Blog for another day! ;) This time … It’s FAITH! Say that word, and often you get, “But I pray all the time! It’s like God can’t hear me!”
Been there, done that! Then I realized that I could talk a pretty good “faith game” but when it came down to it, I prayed for God to orchestrate these incredibly life altering things in my life, like love and lasting marriage, but did I actually believe He would? Because if it didn’t happen as I expected, repeat the same prayer consistently night after night, day after day, even driving in the car or wherever the moment struck me. Mostly, I would be all knelt down next to my bed in prayer, asking God why and feeling sorry for myself, instead of trusting His provision COMPLETELY! Man, this takes practice, but just as soon as you make a habit out of it, He starts blessing you in amazing ways, almost as a way to say “See I Told You I Haven’t Forgotten You!”
If we really trust him, then why do we keep asking the same thing over and over in our prayer? It would be like a kid asking his mom over and over for a new toy. If the mom agreed, because she loves her child and wants him to be happy, but asked him to be patient, it would give any parent the feeling the kid just didn’t trust his mom if he still just kept asking and asking anyway, right? Instead, I have found when you make that request then trusting that God will answer in His perfect timing.
Truthfully, how awesome it is that we can actually take a sigh of relief and rest in that fact! I can’t think of anything else I can rely on in the same way! Showing gratefulness is also extremely confidence-building and really freeing! If you are praying with complete confidence a big ol’ thank you because you have no doubt God, your FATHER honors His promises you are sure to be a much more secure person!
