Ah Vacation! Such an amazing time with family, friends… And once a while, doing things you don't normally get to do! For me, it's things like sleeping in past 4 am (though with small children it's not much later... Raise your hand if you can relate)!

That said, some of the other unique things for me to actually sit and watch a show or a movie uninterrupted without kids screaming for us to change it to a kid's show "like "Thomas the Train" or  "Barney." So because I get to stay up a little later some movies… One interesting observation I made watching the old movies, in particular the Holiday movies, is that the earlier generations seemed to always preserve tradition! No changes, every year the same thing otherwise there'd be some sort of wrath or bad luck that followed. Yet I noticed with us, in this generation, whenever Holiday or special occasion rolls around, we try to change tradition to make new ones as much as possible! Point being, New Year's traditions… Someone have black-eyed peas as a staple, the very same crockpot mom's recipe year after year… Something that brings in the new year with all the luck that one can muster in a slow cooker. However I notice a lot of new traditions, based on some of the comments after sharing on Facebook when we made our quick trip to Golden Corral because I didn't have an invitation to mom's house for New Year's day as in years past. Tongue out

And what about things like New Year's resolutions? Do you still make them? I haven't made one in years that was different than the basic.  You know, trying to be a better person, eat healthier, work better, work smarter and to be the best wife, mom, friend and family member I can be! Pretty generic right?! I love hearing the ideas my friends do and every year I get new great ideas! For instance, passing the cookie jar pulling out names for people to pray for every single day of the year with your family. Or maybe each family member has a competition doing something special with the New Year's resolution. Another listener called in just this morning with a reminder of a website we shared here a while back, that is free and can help if your desire is a healthier new you this year... www.sparkpeople.com

Bill Spence our relationship expert here recommends blowing off the great big resolution and make daily choices to improve on the day before!  Taking much smaller bites and making new more positive habits bit by bit may make it less likely we'll overwhelm ourselves and become disappointed.

What about you? Do you have traditions you love to re-create with your family? Would love all your great ideas, because when it comes to great ideas and creativity… I have come to know without a doubt, there is none better than those who love and listen to our station! Oklahomans in general seem to always keep everyone else on their toes! So let's hear it!
